So, the crab poked her nose out cautiously, to see what was going on in the world around her, since beating a hasty retreat into the safe haven of her shell, some time ago.
She determined that it appeared to be Spring.
She noticed, once more, like last year, that her pretty Spring bulbs, were trying unsuccessfully to root in the basket in the corner, carefully stored for the Winter, and then carelessly forgotten.
She beheld her woodwork remained sanded down, but shunned, unfinished, chiding her silently.
She observed the once white walls of her home, murky and begrimed.
She contemplated the “Winter gained kilos” bulging around her middle.
She also saw the green grass and weeds, brushing to calf height in her garden.
She blanched over the overripe oranges, strewn, carpet like on the ground.
She observed her dog`s Winter fur, flowing in long, tangled tresses.
She found her nest was dreary and shadowed.
Marking the copious tasks clamoring for attention, quickly, she pulled back into her crabbish shell once more, trying to ignore the world and it`s demands.
Reviewing her hasty decision, she poked out an exploratory eye anew……….
She saw that once again, the world was warm and rain was elsewhere.
She viewed the hens, clucking warmly, feathers, a-ruffle, seeking the perfect brooding nest.
She heard the sparrows and blackbirds filling the air with excited chatter.
She eyed the almond trees, ablaze with pink white promises.
She admired the verdant, spiny lobed leaves of the artichoke plants, the span, immense with the promise of this year`s abundance.
She realized the days were longer, warmer – daylight lingering, intruding on darkness`s time.
She decided it was ok. It was time to come out and get on. Time to join in the world – again.
